Patients’ Interests Not Always Number One Concern For DoctorsPosted on | June 17, 2010 A new study done on lung cancer patients shows that when congress aims to reduce Medicare spending, oftentimes doctors increase treatments for patients to make up for the lost income. According to the study, doctors ordered more chemotherapy drugs to patients when Congress did this. The reason is to make up for the lower amount of money they would be making The study used Medicare claims for over 200,000 patients with lung cancer between 2003 and 2005.
