Arden Courts of Largo was designed exclusively for individuals with Alzheimer's disease. Arden Courts offers all the services normally associated with an assisted living facility, however, the services have been modified to take into account the unique needs of the Alzheimer's resident. Special attention has been given to physical building layout, safety and decor. Modified activity and food service programs focus on preferences, abilities and, most importantly, maintaining independence for as long as possible. Of course, personal care assistance is available 24 hours a day. Residents are encouraged to continue whatever activities they were used to doing at home - setting the table or preparing for dinner, doing laundry, gardening in the backyard, or going out for social and community activities. Independence and Safety at Arden Courts of Largo
Right from the start, the management team at Arden Courts of Largo consulted with architectural and design experts who specialize in Alzheimer's facilities. We were determined to make certain we provide the maximum amount of independence and safety. The end result - a layout residential home by design - small in scale and organized into four self-contained "homes". Each home has its own living room, dining room, kitchen, full bath and laundry. Visual cues can be found throughout our homes such as symbols, photographs and colors, strategically placed to aid our residents stay oriented and as independent as possible. We also have a secured backyard for gardening and enjoying the beautiful South Florida outdoor lifestyle. Our homes have both private and shared bedrooms, each with a half a bath. While bedrooms can be fully furnished at Arden Courts of Largo, many of our residents prefer to bring some favorite furniture from home. Our common rooms are cozy and inviting so residents can stay in touch with their sense of style. Professional Health Care Nursing Staff It takes a group of special people to provide the level of care you deserve. At Arden Courts of Largo, each member of our health care staff is well educated in the disease process and management of Alzheimer's disease. Extensive training and continual education is mandated to bring the latest advancements to Alzheimer's disease and memory impairment to Arden Courts of Largo. At the core of our health care team are the Resident Caregivers. The Resident Caregivers serve asa house parents and assist with all daily activities getting to know each residents individual needs.

Programming and Life Skills: All programs at Arden Courts are planned and supervised 7 days per week. Programs are short and varied designed to fill a variety of purposes. For example, dance provides mild exercise; art is a relaxed and creative outlet. Therapeutic programs such as reminiscence therapy inspire mental stimulation. Daily functions of living provide structure and purpose. Making the bed, setting a table, folding laundry are examples of the life skills practiced at Arden Courts. No matter what we are doing at Arden Courts of Largo, we focus on what our residents can do instead of what the cannot do. We realize that successfully accomplishing a task or reaching a goal helps ou senior residents continue to feel productive and good about themselves.
Family Participation - We realize nothing helps our senior residents well being and peace of mind more than knowing their family and friends care for them and want to be involved in their lives. At Arden Courts, we welcome family members to participate in the caregiving as much as you like. We have special events for families dinners, parties, activities and we offer the help of family support groups. The amount of participation is entirely up to you. Many caregivers frequently visit to take their loved one to dinner at a local restaurant or a theater show.

What is the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia?
Alzheimer's disease is the common cause of dementia. This is particularly common in older adults - early-onset Alzheimer's is a rare form of dementia that strikes adults younger than age 65. Because it is the most common cause of dementia, Alzheimer's disease is commonly equated with the general term dementia. However there are many other causes of dementia.
What is Respite Care?
Services that provide people with temporary relief from tasks associated with caregiving such as in-home assistance, short nursing home stays, adult day care. Home family members / caregivers can utilized assisted living facilities such as Arden Courts should the primary caregiver have to leave their home for an extended period of time to obtain short term temporary relief during an out of town absence guarantying maximum safety for the elderly family member. What is an Assisted Living Facility (ALF)?
An assisted living facility (ALF) such as Arden Courts of Largo provides housing, meals, and one or more personal services for seniors who are not related to the facility's owners. A person can become a senior resident of an assisted living facility (ALF) only if certain functional criteria are met, such as being able to perform the activities of daily living (with supervision or assistance) like eating, walking and toileting. A resident cannot be bedridden, cannot require 24-hour nursing supervision, cannot have stage 3 or 4 pressure sores, and other criteria as described in Florida law. Additional services can include management of the senior resident's care, including assessment of the senior resident's needs; planning services; coordinating and assisting residents to gain access to needed medical, mental health, social, educational, or other services; monitoring service delivery and evaluating effects of the service; providing or arranging for transportation to needed medical appointments; providing or assisting in arranging for nursing services for the resident when needed, as long as the senior resident's health does not require more care than can be provided in an assisted living facility (ALF) such as Arden Courts; health monitoring; assisting with self-administration of medication; offering social and leisure activities. Resident living in an assisted living facility (ALF) like Arden Courts of Largo is generally paid by private funds. Keep in mind there are some insurance policies, by Optional State Supplementation through the Florida Department of Children and Families (if the senior resident is eligible), by Medicaid Assisted Living for the Elderly (ALE) Waiver Program (if both the senior resident and the ALF are eligible), or by Medicaid Assistive Care Services (if both the senior resident and the ALF are eligible). All assisted living facilities (ALFs) such as Arden Courts are licensed and inspected by the State of Florida, except those operated by the Federal Government.
