Some assisted living facilities offer a continuation of care such as independent living apartments, memory care assisted living, skilled nursing and rehabilitation and long term, nursing home placement. Senior living with assistance is considered private pay however some consumers may qualify for assistance or through Aid and Attendance Benefits for Veteran's and Spouses/Widows.

Daily respite care can be found at Adult Daycare Centers, through licensed home health care organizations or non-medical home care providers, nursing homes and daily/weekly/monthly rates at assisted living facilities. Respite care is a great way for a caregiver or future resident to see what it's like to be a resident for a short period of time without a long term commitment. This "try before you buy" option, especially while in the selection process for searching for the best assisted living community can give consumers the ability to engage with staff and get a sample of what to expect at life in the facility.

Hours of operations are generally 7:30am to 6pm. Some centers are secured for those individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other memory impairments. Often times a caregiver may utilize Adult Day Care Services during the day allowing caregivers the ability to attend to work, have temporary rest or attend to other obligations.

Licensed caregivers that provide live-in services, senior companionship and/or homemaker's services can come from licensed home health care agencies, nurse registries or homemaker/companion services. Caregivers should expect to pay on average $22 an hour for non-medical senior care with a minimum of 4 hours per visit. Private funding, Veteran's Aid and Attendance Benefits or Long Term Care Insurance are generally the acceptable forms of payment for this type of individualized care.
